Now ninety eight years old the statue in Copenhagen of The Little Mermaid by Danish sculptor Edvard Eriksen was presented to the city on August 23 1913. The true story of the tragic heroine created by Hans Christian Anderson is encompassed forever here as the tale of enduring but doomed love as she gazes to the sea.
